General Information

Loansome Doc is a document order system that allows you to order documents found in PubMed MEDLINE and the NLM Gateway. Loansome Doc orders are sent electronically to our library where we fill document orders on a fee basis.

We try to fill your request with resources from our UT Health Sciences Library first. When we cannot fill your request here, Loansome Doc forwards your request automatically to another library. That library will then send the item directly to you, although you will be billed from our library at the end of the month. Your fee for any of these services will be $6 per document delivery request for UTHSC faculty, staff, alumni, and students. The fee for non-UTHSC affiliates is $10 per request.

Ordering Documents (previously registered Loansome Doc users)

1. Complete your PubMed search and check to select items to order.
2. Select Order from the Send To pull-down menu.
3. Login to Loansome Doc, verify your order, and Proceed to Delivery Options.
4. On the Place Order page, click on Send Order to complete your order.

Ordering Documents (first-time Loansome Doc users)

1. Complete your PubMed search and check to select items to order.
2. Select Order from the Send To pull-down menu.
3. On the Registration page, click on the link to Skip This Step.
4. On the next page, enter our library’s identifier (LIBID): TNUTEN.
5. Continue to register with your preferred mailing address and delivery information.
6. To have Loansome Doc fees charged to a UTHSC account, add that number at the end of the line following your last name, OR if you will be paying with personal funds, the invoice will be mailed to you at the address you provide.
7. Complete the order process as listed above and Send Order.

Ordering Documents via the NLM Gateway

1. Complete your NLM Gateway search and select items to order.
2. Select an Action from the pull-down menu and Put in Locker.
3. Open the Locker and select items to order. Only items marked with a green check can be ordered. Select an Action from the pull-down menu and Order Documents.
4. Your order will be redirected to the Loansome Doc system. Follow the steps listed above for ordering from PubMed.
